| This lovely 19th century cottage is nestled within the welcoming village of Westgate in Weardale and offers holiday accommodation to an excellent standard. The property has been totally renovated with much care and attention ensuring its character and charm has been retained, although it also has a lovely modern ambience throughout. The slate flooring throughout the ground floor is sublime and the multi fuel stove in the lounge ensures a warm welcome awaits guests whatever the season! The quaint stable door from the kitchen leads to a raised patio area where the lovely views can be enjoyed - a haven for a spot of relaxation.... Westgate sits within the Wear valley and is surrounded by unspoilt countryside. The village marks the western entrance of Stanhope Park, the Prince Bishops' deer park and the area is renowned for its wildlife and Siltt Wood, which is now a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Visitors will enjoy the 1/3 mile woodland walk leading to the spectacular sight of High Force, England's largest waterfall only 12 miles away from Dales View Cottage. From its rise as a trickle, high on the heather-capped fells of the North Pennines; the River Tees steadily gathers pace then spectacularly drops 21 metres into the plunge pool below. Only 15 miles further up the Pennines is the remote market town of Alston; it sits 1300 feet above sea level and claims to be the highest settlement in England, and is the starting point for the South Tyne Railway. The scenery surrounding this area is truly stunning, deservedly recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dales View Cottage enjoys the unique position of being an excellent central base for those wishing to explore Hadrian's Wall Country coupled with easy access to the Durham Dales, the Eden valley and the Lake District National Park. |
