| Nestled amidst 4.5 acres of its own secluded, private woodland - a designated wildlife site where deer, rabbits, squirrels, pheasants, partridges, quails, owls, herons, ducks and a wide diversity of many more species are regular visitors - for your own personal enjoyment sits this beautiful thatched, detached cottage. A gentle stroll through the woodland leads to an idyllic half a mile stretch of river bank alongside the River Doon on the property's eastern boundary. With formal gardens and lily pond adjacent to the cottage it is a haven of peace and tranquility - yet only a few minutes drive from Alloway village with its post office, general store, tea room, chemist, gift shop and excellent food and wine of the Brig O'Doon Hotel - all of which can also be reached on foot by the riverside walk at the bottom of the garden. Alloway village is also the location of the world famous Burns Cottage, birthplace of Robert Burns, and the Burns Heritage Centre - so at Doonbank Cottage you are truly in the heart of Burns country. It is said many of Burns poems were composed on this salmon rich riverbank, including "Ye Banks and Braes of Bonnie Doon"!. Just 2 miles away is the beautiful park of Rozelle House and art gallery, which is next to Belleisle golf course - just one of the many excellent courses nearby, including the prestigious Royal Troon and Turnberry. Ayrshire has something for everyone, whether your interest is history, sailing, fishing, riding, walking, castles, gardens or beaches, and of course, not forgetting the bustling country town of Ayr itself, less than 5 miles away.
