About Samian Place
Cottage rental includes
This cosy little pied offers bright and modern accommodation and is just the ticket for a couple searching for the perfect getaway in Galloway! Samian Place is so well placed in the village of Kirkpatrick Durham, which is only a mile from the main road, ensuring easy access in every direction. The views over the garden from the first floor open plan lounge to the hills of Screel and Bengairn beyond are lovely. For keen walkers, the hill of Screel is a must and although not a great height there are wonderful views across the Solway to the Cumbrian Fells and towards the Galloway Hills. The latter are also highly recommended for keen ramblers. The lovely town of Castle Douglas is close by and has a pleasing selection of shops including some great food shops, which is not surprising as it is known as the 'food town'. A visit to Threave Castle is a real adventure as the only way to approach the castle is to call for the custodian to row you across! The Solway coast is known as the Scottish Riviera due to its temperate climate touched by the Gulf Stream. A trip to Kippford, Rockcliffe and Sandyhills is a must. From Kippford, tide permitting, visitors may cross the sands to a small isle called Rough Island. The largest forest park in the UK is here in Galloway and protects some wonderful secrets, from stone heads, the Eye and the Labyrinth, to hills and moorland and lochs and wildlife. For anyone interested in the night sky then come here as the forest has won an award for being one of the best places in the world to star gaze. Not for the faint hearted is Laggan Outdoor where mountain balling is on offer, but visit the Cream of Galloway ice cream parlour another day! The area is a well known haunt of the artistic community and throughout the year there are various activities including the acclaimed Spring Fling and open studios days. Of course the Artists' Town is the place to go and it is easy to see why artists have been inspired for centuries with its brightly painted historic houses and working harbour. For keen cyclists we have mile after mile of quiet byways and for those serious mountain bikers we have five of the 7Staines sites right here in the countyThe property has calor gas central heating and free standing heaters.
