About Tawmans
Cottage rental includes
Tawmans is the epitome of a quintessential olde world cottage which has been painstakingly restored and refurbished to provide an exceptionally high standard of accommodation throughout. One of its unique features is its turf roof; a form of roofing that was prevalent in Viking times and even predates thatch. Forming a protective carpet of grasses and wild flowers it adds immense charm to this unique and picturesque cottage.Original thick stone walls, deep silled windows, solid wood flooring and the cosy wood burning stove complete the picture. The high ceilings throughout maximise the light and add to its distinctive character. The cottage is superbly positioned between open farmland and the sea and the spectacular seacape views and sunsets are a magical form of entertainment. Surrounded by its own garden grounds it provides an ideal location for couples or singles to escape from it all. Just half a mile away is Camus Mor harbour and bay. A lovely spot to enjoy a quiet picnic, waterside walk, fish from the rocks or even launch your own boat from the old fishing boat slipway. The local area is a haven for wild life. Basking sharks, otters, sea and golden eagles are all spotted in the region. Nearby places of interest include a fascinating museum of island life, Flora MacDonald's grave, Duntulm castle, iron-age ring and a wee 'fun' museum of local interest - definitely worth a visit! The surrounding area is truly spectacular and an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. The amazing Quiraing mountain range with its dramatic rock formations formed from a combination of volcanic rock and limestone, the Old Man of Storr, the magnificent Kilt Rock waterfall are all within close proximity. The Whitewave Outdoor centre is close by and offers a range of outdoor pursuits including kayaking, sailing and guided walks and climbs across the hills and mountain paths. The pretty fishing port of Uig is just 5 miles away. It has a number of excellent pubs and restaurants, a local bakery, pottery and is also the home of the Isle of Skye brewery. From Uig one can take a day ferry trip to the Outer Isles. The island's 'capital', Portree, with its picturesque harbour crammed full of fishing boats, encircled by brightly painted cottages and restaurants is just 30 minutes away.Property is all at ground floor level, has electric panel heaters.
