| Wanlockhead is the highest village in Scotland, standing at 1541 feet above sea level in the beautiful dramatic countryside of the Lowther Hills. Nestling in an elevated row of former miners' cottages, this quaint holiday home has been sympathetically restored and refurbished. It has a lovely cosy welcoming interior with a log burning stove to come home to after a day's exploring. The village has a hotel serving delicious pub food. Nearest shop 1 mile with further shopping in Thornhill.Guests can enjoy wandering around the village which boasts the country's only Lead Mining Museum or try panning for gold at the Mennock centre - the gold here is approx 22.8 carats! There are some lovely walks in this outstanding hill-walking country and the Southern Upland Way passes nearby. Fishing in local rivers, golf, pony trekking, mountain biking and good country roads for cycling. Easy day excursions can be enjoyed to the popular towns of Moffat, Dumfries and Ayr. Glasgow and Edinburgh are each 1 hour's drive.1 double bedroom, 1 twin bedroom which is accessed from the lounge by a cast iron spiral staircase, lounge with sofa bed, log fire and dining area open plan to the kitchen, shower-room. Cooking by gas range and Rayburn, gas central heating and log fire. Fridge, freezer, washing machine, microwave, portable television. Bed linen and towels are provided. |
